Banner advertisements have seen a sudden, drastic drop in the cost of their creation and use. So more and more business people and websites make use of these banners to grab the attention of viewers for enhancing their online market and sales. The web banner designer has to find some specific call to action in the place of the customary “Click here”. Though it invites the viewers to do some action it is too vague to make your banner ad stand out. Instead try your banner with some more descriptive words like “For details”, “Read more”, “Now Buy”, “For discount” etc. Such call to action will prompt the visitors to click on the banner ad and inform their next action when they reach there.

You can get a lot of best performing punch lines from Yahoo or Google paid search ads. Try a few and wait for the results. Fewer words will produce better results, only thing, they should be clear and encouraging. You might confuse the users if you try to be very smart because they will look at your banner for a very short while.

Tell the designer to make the banner background stand out from the web page where it is displayed. Note the background color of the web page your banner ad is going to appear so that your banner does not merge with the page. Many web pages with white or light backgrounds will give an opportunity to select a deep color for your banner.

Ensure that the banner ad gets a good spot to be placed on a webpage or in an e-mail newsletter. Ascertain whether it appears at the top or on the center of the page or viewers have to scroll down to find your banner, i.e. at the bottom line of the page. Larger banner ads placed at more prominent spots might produce more clicks, smaller ads, however, have their own merits too, often they are affordable.

Control your urge or temptation to generate a blinking or shaking web banner ad. Banner ads are not just for prompting users to click on them, but also to build enough confidence in them to do business with you when they are taken to your site.  So show maximum respect for your customers by avoiding ‘gimmicky’ shaky banners.
