DESIGNING FLASH BANNERS
Flash banners are animated files created on Macromedia Flash format. These banners are displayed on websites with a plug-in. The flash files or flash films offer a lot of different types of animation with a small data file size. Flash has introduced an entirely new era in the world of web banner designing. Flash produces much smoother animations and the file sizes are much smaller when compared to animated gifs. Flash banners enjoy direct interaction with internet viewers. In addition, these banners can catch the attention of more visitors than simple banners and both Click-Through-Rates and Return of Investment of flash animated banners are higher than normal graphic banner ads.
Now we will see how a banner designer creates a banner using Flash technology.
First, the designer selects the size of the flash banner you require for your online marketing campaign from the size tab. All the standard sizes of banners are listed on the size tab. You can choose a custom-sized banner even.
Next is the selection of the background. Here you have three choices on the background tab—a solid color, an image or a gradient between two colors.
In the next step, the designer selects the additional shapes and images to be included in your banner from the shapes tab and the images tab. He/she tries various settings till he/she gets the desired shape. Shape background can be a solid color, an image or a gradient between two colors. To add image, click on Add Image on the image tab. You can select from any image found in the images directory or from any image or logo seen in your computer.
To add the text for a banner, use the text tab. To have another line of text, click on the New Text button again and change the text line. Like this, any number of text lines can be included. It is possible to change various properties of text like size, font etc. If the previous text needs any modifications, click on the text using the mouse and change the settings. Text can be moved by using the arrows on the Tools menu or just click and drag the text.
Now select the animation for the banner ad. By clicking on the Play button you can preview the animation. There are options to include the background, images, shapes or text in the animation or exclude these from it. You can speed up or slow down the animation. The number of frames (number of times to loop) decides how long the animation must play. The first and last frames can also be delayed.
Lastly, animation is saved by clicking on the Save button on the save tab. Thus swf flash file is created. Once the animation is saved you can preview, email or FPT it to a website.
You have to create the HTML link code in order to add the animated flash banner to a website. Thus your designer has created a beautiful eye-catching flash banner ready to be displayed on a website.
